2014 Floods on The Somerset Levels
Most recently we have become synonomous with the floods that devastated the Somerset levels last winter leaving our factory under 8 feet of water and put us out of production for five months. You can read more about the flooding on the Somerset Levels here.
The images below of before and after the flooding of our factory went viral at the time! We thankfully recovered from this terrible situation and the devastation caused is a distant nightmare.
Before the floods - entrance to our factory street view
After the flooding - entrance to our factory (lakeside).
The Basket Works unfortunately relocated their business after seventy years of trading. We became involved with the FLAG Flooding on the Levels action group to publicise the misery & devastation that was caused. #neveragain
Solid Wood v Engineered Wood Flooring
People are often unaware that wood will react according to changes in humidity and temperature. Using solid wood flooring in modern installations involving heating, air-conditioning and under-floor heating systems is therefore unwise and risky due to its instability. Today’s demands upon wood flooring installations necessitated adding stability to timber / wood flooring. Wood in its solid state is no longer suitable for all of these 21st century expectations. To overcome these difficulties we developed our own engineered wood flooring using the best materials available for this extremely demanding market, so successful has this been that we no longer produce solid wood flooring
